Yay Halloween! My favorite holiday (of course right?).
There are a great many myths and legends surrounding this time of year and this Holiday in particular. Some with historical significances you may not be aware of. For example: Black Cats - Cats have been associated with goddess worship for centuries, and during the burning times, many women under the influence of torture said they were able to turn themselves into cats. Since cats were then associated with Witches, they of course became a popular symbol for Halloween. Why black? Probably because black is the color of mystery. How about Pitchforks: The symbol of the devil? Not so much! Pitchforks have been used in farming right? Well, Samhain (aka Halloween) is traditionally the last harvest festival of the year, and pitchforks come in handy when harvesting crops don’t they? So you see, there is a very practical reason why the pitchfork may have been seen commonly during this time of year. It is also a male fertility symbol.
I won’t get into the history of Halloween, or all the other superstitions such as witches, vampires, ghosts, scarecrows, etc… because I am writing a blog and not a novella. However, for those of you interested in such things, I recommend the book “Halloween” by Silver Ravenwolf. It is chock full of wonderful bits of history, recipes, and yes even some spells for the practicing witch, and it’s all centered around Halloween!.
Curious as to why we call it “Samhain”? or where trick-or-treating came from? Then read the book!! (No I am not plugging the book because I get a kickback LOL, I will just do anything to get people to read something, especially if it contains accurate information about my favorite holiday!)
Happy reading, and have a safe and blessed Halloween/Samhain! *cackle*

Usually when I mention that I am a witch, it raises some eyebrows along with lots of questions so I'll cover some of the more common ones.
1. Do you worship the devil?
No, in fact, I don't believe in the devil. I believe that a person is good or bad (I don't like using the term evil because of all the taboo around it) based on what is in their heart. You can choose to be a good person by being kind, or you can choose to do bad, hurtful things. I do believe that whatever energy you put out to the universe comes back to you much stronger, so if you happen to be a bad person then watch out because it's gonna come back at ya so be prepared.
2. What is a Witch?
There are so many answers to this question since there are many different types of witches. To me, a witch is someone who tries to live in harmony with the earth and who is in tune to the seasons/cycles of the year. Witches are teachers, counselors, healers, students, volunteers, and many other things. How about you tell me what you think a witch is, and I'll let you know if you're on the right track, and help clarify any misconceptions you have.
3. What is Magick?
Magick is basically like prayer. You send your thoughts/desires out to the universe with hopes of creating the change you want/need. It's basically manipulating energy to create change (manipulation is another one of those words that has negative conotations to it, but it's really not a negative term here).
4. Do witches have to wear black?
Heck no. I personally like purple, red, and many other colors. If we wear black, it is because we choose to, and because we can. That is all. Usually black is chosen for ritual circle because it is not distracting. There's nothing like a fuscia polka dotted cape with lime green trim to take your attention away from your working.
5. Do all witches have black cats that talk to them?
Nope. Mine is a tiger striped color. She does talk to me though. Some witches have other pets too like dogs, fish, birds, reptiles, etc... Most of us love creatures.
6. Can you fly?
Yep - so can you.....it's called an airplane (LOL). Seriously though, no we can not physically fly, but through meditation and dreaming you can do whatever you want. Daydreaming is my favorite pasttime.
I guess that's all for now. I'll try to think of some of the other questions I get asked and post them later.

It seems as though everyone has a blog these days. So...I have decided to hop on the blog bandwagon as well. Hmmm....whatever shall I write about??? I am not really highly proficient in any one area, but have a myriad of interests and knowledge in many areas, so I will be writing about anything and everything (I know...can I be anymore vague LOL).
I have a hunger for knowledge and want to know EVERYTHING! However, snce there are only 24 hours in a day and life tends to get in the way, I can't devote as much time as I'd like to the learning process. so I try to squeeze it in whenever I can. So, this blog will contain updates on new things I am learning about, and serve as an outlet for the various meanderings going on in my head. I will try to post thoughts/comments on common questions I receive, and the main topics will primarily be of a metaphysical nature (of course!)
I hope you find it interesting.
Blessed Be
Heather
